All my cards on the table…I am a huge…HUGE Jason Bourne fan. The Daniel Craig Bond series and the spy genre in general owes TONS to Bourne for reinventing how these films are made. Hell, Legacy didn’t even bother me that much. But it is great to see Damon and Greengrass back in the saddle for this one. I was stunned that there was so much turmoil on the set of Ultimatum seeing as I friggin’ loved that film. This film seems like an amalgam of Supremacy and Ultimatum, with Stiles in the Marie role. I wish they would have stuck with the Ludlum title motif instead of just calling it Jason Bourne. (Bourne Again, ReBourne, something). But that nitpick aside, it looks great, Damon was born…damn…to play this role. And the age weariness of him helps with the character. And who better to catch the world’s most dangerous fugitive than Tommy Lee Jones? I hope they give him some room to play like First Avenger did. Be a waste to keep him restrained. Alicia Vikander fresh off an Oscar, Vincent Cassell, it’s all looking great. They got Barry Ackroyd, the DP of Cpt. Phillips and Hurt Locker, but I’m not seeing any listing for Composer anywhere. I hope to God they get John Powell back…One of Bourne Legacy’s biggest mistakes was not having John Powell score it. His music is essentially the oxygen in this universe. Goa, Waterloo, The Roof, google any of those song titles by Powell and tell me you don’t just feel like you’re on the run with Bourne. Fingers crossed.
As a longtime lover of the Bourne franchise, I like the trailer for “Jason Bourne” and am looking forward to its release in theaters. It’s nice to see Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass return for this 5th installment to the series. I’m hoping that it doesn’t rely on a lot of flashbacks that were used a bit too heavily in “The Bourne Ultimatum.” Based on the bit of information shown in the trailer, it looks like the action sequences will be a treat and Bourne is going to be kicking butt and doing what he does best…uncovering shady practices to bring down the bad guys.
I also agree with DJ Valentine regarding the title of this movie and that it would have been best to continue in the style that fit the series. The addition of Tommy Lee Jones to the cast of characters is a nice surprise. All I have to say about that is…hell to the yeah! I cannot wait to watch this movie. I have high expectations and I hope it turns out well. Long live Jason Bourne!
