It seems all I’m doing at the moment is opening and closing polls on here. As you hopefully know, over on the Lambcast we occasionally hold episodes devoted to specific directors, wherein we look at either their entire or a smattering of films from their back catalogues. In the past we’ve looked at the likes of Kevin Smith, Woody Allen, Terry Gilliam, Richard Linklater, the Coen brothers, Darren Aronofsky and David Cronenberg, and now I’m putting the call out to you to see who we should talk about next. Below is a poll on which I’ve listed 8 potential directors, to give you an idea of the kind of person we’d be looking at, but feel free to enter your own ideas too, and by all means select as many as you’d like.
Here’s the choices we’ve come up with so far:
Guillermo del Toro
(Cronos, Mimic, The Devil’s Backbone, Blade II, Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy II, Pacific Rim)
David O. Russell
(Spanking the Monkey, Flirting with Disaster, Three Kings, I Heart Huckabees, The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle)
Kathryn Bigelow
(The Loveless, Near Dark, Blue Steel, Point Break, Strange Days, Weight of Water, K-19: The Widowmaker, The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty)
John Carpenter*
(Dark Star, Assault on Precinct 13, Halloween, Elvis, The Fog, Escape from New York, The Thing, Christine, Starman, Big Trouble in Little China, Prince of Darkness, They Live, Memoirs of an Invisible Man, In the Mouth of Madness, Village of the Damned, Escape from L.A., Vampires, Ghosts of Mars, The Ward)
*Due to Carpenter’s large body of work, we’d pick and choose a selection of his films.
Danny Boyle
(Shallow Grave, Trainspotting, A Life Less Ordinary, The Beach, 28 Days Later…, Millions, Sunshine, Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours, Trance)
M. Night Shyamalan
(Wide Awake, The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs, The Village, Lady in the Water, The Happening, The Last Airbender, After Earth)
Alexander Payne
(Citizen Ruth, Election, About Schmidt, Sideways, The Descendants, Nebraska)
Paul Thomas Anderson
(Hard Eight, Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Punch-Drunk Love, There Will Be Blood, The Master, Inherent Vice)
