Site Name: Final Girl
What is the main focus of your site (reviews, editorials, news, lists, etc.)?
When I first began Final Girl, I focused mainly on slasher movies; over time, though, I’ve expanded my scope to include all sorts of horror movies. I post horror reviews, lists, interviews, trailers, news items…pretty much anything I can come up with, so long as it’s related to scary movies in some way.
What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
I’d like to continue to improve as a writer. I started the blog on a whim, simply because I love horror movies and I wanted to have a place to talk about them. Though I’m loathe to put ads on the site or attempt to turn it into a for-profit venture (I wouldn’t know how to go about that, even if I wanted to), I certainly wouldn’t object to the blog leading to opportunities elsewhere. Really, I just want to write about horror movies and make people laugh.
Do you prefer an interactive ‘community’ for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
As far as being the “teacher” goes, I don’t claim to be an expert on my chosen focus; however, I do love introducing people to movies they haven’t seen, or actors they may never had heard of. It’s all about spreading the love, man, dig? Which is why I also love the “community” aspect of Final Girl. I love the dialogue, I love getting recommendations…it’s like getting together with your friends over a beer and talking about horror movies, except I’m drinking alone and staring at a computer screen. Wait…I’m a loser!
How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I’ve been at it for a couple of years now…I started in June 2005. I try my very very best to update every day Monday through Friday and I usually meet my goal, even if I just post something lame. Wait, I shouldn’t tell people I make lame posts…I mean, even if I just post something AWESOME. Occasionally I’ll post on the weekends, and every once in a while I reach critical mass and I simply run out of things to say. I’ve been known to be quiet for a week or so, but that’s pretty rare and getting rarer. Is that a word?
Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Harold and Maude, The Haunting (’63), Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.
How did you hear about the LAMB?
I saw a button on Saranomics and I was all, like, “Wow, what’s that?” and then I, like, totally clicked and stuff.
Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that’s not listed above.
