It seemed inevitable that The Thing would finally become the MOTM, after a couple progressively better showings in the polls (just as it seems inevitable that The Third Man will win one of these months). Good thing, too (no pun intended), as it’s a hell of a film. Interestingly enough, it wasn’t deemed a classic (and wasn’t commercially successful, either) upon its release, where it barely earned its budget back and arrived to mixed reviews. Which makes you wonder – which new releases will be looked upon as classics in a few decades?
For those unfamiliar with it, the plot synopsis from IMDb:
“An American scientific expedition to the frozen wastes of the Antarctic is interrupted by a group of seemingly mad Norwegians pursuing and shooting a dog. The helicopter pursuing the dog crashes leaving no explanation for the chase. During the night, the dog mutates and attacks other dogs in the cage and members of the team that investigate. The team soon realizes that an alien life-form with the ability to take over other bodies is on the loose and they don’t know who may already have been taken over. “

As we do every month, the LAMBcast is tied in with the MOTM. This time, Dylan, Kai, and Nick were joined by first-timer Steve of 1001plus – and thank goodness for that, as he shared numerous valuable insights that blew Kai’s mind. Also keep an ear out for a particularly angry Rants of the Week.

Weird question I guess but I’ll ask anyway. Is it possible (through code) to add this poll on our own sites as well then it would be a little more exposed.
Excellent idea, Joel! Yes, absolutely – it’s a piece of cake. I’ll email you the code.
Great maybe in the future it can be encouraged in the post also.
Thanks Dylan!
Great show guys. Just finished listening to this weeks episode. Great appearance by Steve no doubt about it!
Loved the Lynch rants. One wonder who came up with him for the Directors Chair!!! I actually do think he can do normal films (Elephant man and Straight Story are proof of that) he just doesn’t want to.
RE: the code – will do.
And thanks – glad at least one person will like the Lunch rants! We’re bound to piss some off with that stuff.
I’m glad you guys brought it up and were so united about it becasue sometimes I feel so alone not getting the “genius” Lynch.

I am so bummed I missed the opportunity to put a post up for this. I’ll still write something up, not sure what just yet.
Steve – I agree, The Thing is a total 5/5. I loved that story about your theater experience. I try to take my younger brother to see good flicks when I can but I still can’t get him into horror. Not yet at least, but I’m trying pretty hard.
Dylan – I’m blushing! hahah all of FTS is blushing actually, thanks so much for all the support!
FTS – Opportunity not lost! This is still the latest LAMBcast posted, so by all means.
You all deserve the kudos – your site is really kicking ass as of late, and I’m a confirmed regular listener to your podcast. You just gotta get the rest of your team helping out with the conversations and posting more comments.
@French Toast:
I’ve got about another year until my older daughter can start handling more and more horror. She likes tame horror films, but I’m not quite ready to scar her that seriously yet.
At the very least, she should be as old as I was when I was dragged to The Thing.
