Yes Lammies. It is now that time for us to embark on yet another journey through trailer town. Where we will visit all sorts of town folks and their homes. There’s old man Quentin and his film about a slave who gets his revenge. Down the street past the candy shop. We come across The Broken Lizard Team who want to help a couple conceive a child. Now that sounds downright scary. So let’s all grab our maps and take a stroll through these cinematic cottages.
Django Unchained. 12/25
Jamie Foxx and Christoph Waltz play bounty hunters that track and kill slave owners in this latest flick from Quentin Tarantino. Now some have called his movies homages while others have said they are straight rip offs. The latter part may be true, but at least he’s ripping off movies we have not seen a dozen times before. For me Mr. Tarantino is like a great D.J. who can mash up different styles of films together and play them at a party. The whole cast looks great including Leonardo DiCaprio who is finally no longer doing serious, brooding roles, and looks to be having fun playing the villainous slave owner.
Wreck it Ralph. 11/02
This movie does for video game characters what “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” did for cartoons. In that it’s going to have a lot of references to those classic games you and I have loved for a long time. Ralph(John C. Rielly) is tired of being the villain so he leaves his own game to become a hero. This one had cameos from Bowser(“Super Mario Bros“) and Q-Bert (“Q-Bert“) to name a few and it has the voice work of Jack McBrayer and my personal favorite Sarah Silverman in this as well. It looks like Disney wants to appeal to a bit of a more older crowd with this one.I’m not saying kids won’t enjoy it, but I doubt they will under stand a lot of the references.
The Babymakers. 08/03
Wow, What a shitty life this guy in this movie must have. He’s married to Olivia Munn and can’t get aroused when she’s naked to help give her a child. What worse is that he brings in members of The Broken Lizard Comedy Team to help him steal sperm from a clinic. I really don’t understand why someone would go through all that trouble when you have a hot wife at home. This guy should really just focus on fixing his problem otherwise there is no reason to go on living. This doesn’t look to be as funny as their other movies “Super Troopers” and “Beerfest“. This looks to be their take on “What To Expect When Your Expecting“.
Premium Rush. 08/24
Who knew bike messengers lead such dangerous lives. When a bike messenger (Joesph Gordon Levitt) grabs a package belonging to a dangerous man( Michael Shannon). he begins being chased all throughout New York. This looks to be a standard thriller, but he cast looks good, and I’m excited to see Mr. Shannon in more main stream films.
Shallow Grave. CRITERION DVD and BlueRay 06/12
This Debut film from director Danny Boyle (“Trainspotting“, “Sunshine“) revolves round three friends(Christopher Eccleston, Ewan McGreggor, and Kerry Fox) who discovers their latest flatmate dead with suitcase full of cash. This is a very clever little thriller that I’m glad is finally being released from Criterion in new special edition.
Have a good week everyone. I’ll be back next week with more trailer tid bits.
