Today’s award goes to Best Actor. Here’s how it all went down…
5. Hugh Jackman (Les Miserables) – 85 points
4. Denis Lavant (Holy Motors) – 91 points
3. Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook) – 97 points
2. Joaquin Phoenix (The Master) – 170 points
1. Daniel Day-Lewis (Lincoln) – 202 points
You will procure him those votes! Daniel Day Lewis’ Lincoln certainly won the vote, defeating his main challenger Joaquin Phoenix (The Master) by 32 points. As was the case with Best Actress, it’s nice to see a foreign language performance get recognition.
Denzel Washington was the only Oscar nominee to miss out here, netting 56 points for 6th place. The much beloved Matthew McConaughey (Killer Joe) couldn’t keep up either, taking 7th place with his 48 points. Come back tomorrow for a really big award – Best Director!
Previous Winners
2008: Sean Penn (Milk)
2009: Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker)
2010: Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network)
2011: Ryan Gosling (Drive)
How on earth did Cooper beat Lavant and Jackman? There was no contest for number one though. Daniel Day-Lewis takes acting to another level.
Part of it always depends on what film has been seen by the most people. As Shane said, we’re really lucky that we had enough bloggers watching foreign films to get nominations into both the Actor and Actress categories!
Yeah, I expect you’re right. More people will have seen Silver Linings.
I wish Denzel got some more love. Who’s the guy from holy motors
