Next up is Best Director.
Here’s who we picked:
5. Paul Thomas Anderson (The Master) – 98 points
4. Ang Lee (Life of Pi) – 99 points
3. Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty) – 120 points
2. Quentin Tarantino (Django Unchained) – 122 points
1. Ben Affleck (Argo) – 171 points
Ben Affleck has won every Best Director award this Oscar season, so it’s only fitting that he should win here too, right? What’s even more impressive is that he beat out 2 LAMB favorites in Tarantino and Bigelow.
Just like in Foreign Film, the LAMB members ignored the Oscar nominations, with only Ang Lee making the cut in 4th place. Spielberg grabbed 63 points for 8th, Haneke and Zeitlin tied for 10th and David O. Russell was even further behind at 13th.
Previous Winners
2009: Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker)
2010: Christopher Nolan (Inception)
2011: Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive)
Affleck got robbed at the Oscars.
Affleck and Tarantino gave the world two amazing movies this year. Sadly neither of them will be getting an award for their directing skills.
I’m not sure Affleck did anything amazing though. Argo is a tightly-made, suspense driven film but I don’t see anything unique about it. For example; only QT could’ve made Django Unchained. Yet, I feel most competent directors could’ve made Argo. I guess it’s more impressive that he was also infront of the camera whilst behind it.
Meh, I’m waffling. I want Ang Lee to win.
