It’s that time again…the 7th Annual LIONs for LAMBs Awards! These are our version of the Academy Awards where LAMB members give their say on the best films of 2013, including all the extras like actor, actress, director among others. As was the case last year, we have 10 categories for you to vote on.
Please include your choices from 1 to 10 for Best Films and 1 to 5 for everything else, as the winners will be based...
Happy Waitangi Day, everyone. We’re celebrating the cinematic output of New Zealand today. We’ve managed to cover most of Peter Jackson’s films (sorry, King Kong and The Lovely Bones, fans) and even a few films he had nothing to do with. Relax and read some great New Zealand film content today.

Hey, there. Shala from Life Between Films. I started a collaboration series last year for bloggers attending film festivals to write a journal entry of sorts of one day in their life while they attended. We have since done this project for the Tribeca Film Festival as well as the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). This time around it’s just me and another blogger named Iba, each attending Sundance 2014 with press credentials....
This week’s new releases cover both extremes of the quality spectrum. First up, we have one of the Top 10 LAMBScores of 2013 in Spike Jonze’s Her. On the other hand, we also have one the worst LAMBScores ever, thanks to The Legend of Hercules. In between those, we’ve also got reviews for August: Osage County...
Looking ahead, you may not think there’s too many good films coming out over the course of the next year, especially when you consider how full 2015 is looking. Well, you may be right, but that didn’t stop host Jay Cluitt, along with guests Justin Gott, Jess Manzo, Mette Kowalski and Kristen Lopez, as they listed their top 5 most anticipated films of the upcoming year. Don’t worry though, there’s still a fair few gems...
Next up on our docket of national day celebrations is Waitangi Day. Waitangi Day is a national holiday in New Zealand commemorating the Treaty of Waitangi, the founding document of New Zealand. It is celebrated each year on February 6 (unless February 6 lands on a weekend, then it’s observed the following Monday or Tuesday).
In honor of Waitangi Day, we’re asking you to submit your best content on New Zealand cinema. New...
Happy Australia Day, everyone. We asked for your write-ups of Australian cinema to celebrate the holiday and you delivered. Check out all the great links from your fellow LAMB members and keep your eyes open for future National Days at The Lamb. If you have an idea for a National Day subject, leave it in the comments below.

2013 has been and gone, so it’s about time we here at the Lambcast paid it a fitting farewell by reminiscing over our favourite films from the year, and boy did we do it in style. Host Jay Cluitt was joined by Lindsay Street, Shane Slater, Jessica Elgenstierna and Kristen Lopez to reel off their top 5s, before awarding some random Lamb (Lamb-dom? No.) awards wherever they felt necessary.
Also on hand were rants and raves...
If you’re new to this feature or need a refresher, click the label at the bottom of this post and see the previous posts. Otherwise, here are the basics:
What I do is list a site; you critique it. But here’s the catch: to induce the most honest reactions, don’t leave the comment using your normal alias/login – instead, go anonymous (for now you probably need to comment through bogus information and I’ll moderate all comments...
In order to open up an even wider discussion about films from all around the world, we’re going to begin celebrating holidays of national and international importance at The LAMB. These are going to be far less formal than Foreign Chops and will hopefully continue as annual events.
Our first subject is going to be Australia. Australia Day, the national holiday of Australia, is celebrated each year on January 26. It marks the...
Jean Claude Van Damme! Time travelling! Kicking things! This month’s Movie of the Month champion is not what you’d necessarily call a “good” film, but it certainly provoked an entertaining discussion covering the career of JCVD, the ramifications of time travel and whether or not the same matter can share the same space (it can… but it can’t).…
