Movie of the Month/LAMBcast #88: Bronson

by Dylan · October 16, 2011 · LAMBcast, MOTM, Podcasts · 7 Comments

Tom Hardy has been acting in high-profile films since the early 2000s (Black Hawk Dawn, Star Trek: Nemesis), but it wasn’t until 2008 when he made a name for himself, first in Guy Ritchie’s “comeback” film RockNRolla, and subsequently in the film of the day, Bronson. The sixth film from Danish director Nicholas Winding Refn (Drive) is, well…have a look at the plot synopsis from IMDb, as it might be the most concise the story can be told as::

“In 1974, a hot-headed 19 year old named Michael Peterson decided he wanted to make a name for himself and so, with a homemade sawn-off shotgun and a head full of dreams he attempted to rob a post office. Swiftly apprehended and originally sentenced to 7 years in jail, Peterson has subsequently been behind bars for 34 years, 30 of which have been spent in solitary confinement. During that time, Michael Petersen, the boy, faded away and ‘Charles Bronson,’ his superstar alter ego, took center stage. Inside the mind of Bronson – a scathing indictment of celebrity culture.”

It’s also time to vote on next month’s movie. I’ve included many of the choices from last month, but swapped a few out to keep it interesting. You have one week to vote.

As we do every month, the LAMBcast is tied in with the MOTM. This time, we bickered and bantered and nitpicked and – wouldn’t ya know it – had the most disparity in opinions on an MOTM film that we’ve we had yet. Suffice it to say that Bronson is quite the divisive film. On hand were host Dylan and his co-host Nick, as well as James, Sam, and Steve.

Either here in the comments section or to or to our Facebook page. Also, we’re on iTunes, and would still love a review, even if it’s a bad one.

Thanks for listening!

    Great turnout of articles.

I definitively need to see Bronson.

  2. Great podcast. I’ve said before that I love the rants the most, so I was glad to see them bleeding over into the rave section. It’s especially funny that it happened on the Bronson show, which made me wonder whether the film had an even greater impact on you guys than you realized!

  3. Nah. I’m just an angry guy.

  4. Rachel says:

I have to agree with Dylan on preferring to see Tucker & Dale in the theater rather than via iTunes. I rented it on iTunes and watched it alone, on my computer screen, thinking it would never come to a theater near me. Though I liked it, I definitely looked forward to the day it came out on dvd to watch it with others.

Then it actually came to our arthouse theater and my mom wanted me to go with her to see it and I couldn’t resist seeing it on the big screen with other people. By far a much better experience, especially for that genre of film.

  5. Dan Heaton says:

I haven’t seen Bronson yet, but I really enjoyed the Rants section. Everyone had a great rant, especially Sam’s. The whole thing had me laughing out loud at my desk. Bravo!

  6. Dan Heaton says:

I forgot to mention the best part – Steve’s library rave/rant! I use our local libraries more than anything else for my blog, so it was great to hear them plugged.

  7. Andy Buckle says:

Great show guys! Interesting discussion about Bronson, a film I enjoy, but found to be less effective on second viewing (since I turned in my MOTM review). Loved Sam and Steve’s rants! Steve, man, you’re a legend!
