It’s already been mentioned , but I will repeat it again, the LAMB has a history of seeking out left field choices for the Christmas MOTM, “Batman Returns” being a pretty good example of a previous off the wall choice. Nothing wrong with that when there are so many holiday options, sometimes a change of pace is fun. So if police corruption, murder, prostitution and blackmail are your idea of a great way to celebrate the spirit of Christmas, we have the show for you.
Heather Baxendale-Walsh opened her gift early this year. After a decade of submitting films for MOTM, she finally is a winner (she’s always been one but now has a stamp to go with it). Her selection of the 1997 crime drama “L.A. Confidential” beat out the as yet to be discussed on the LAMB, “It’s a Wonderful Life”. Jess Manzo has a statistical defense of that preference in the discussion but we never really bother to debate it, we just accept that Heather was pure of heart when she submitted the film.
Howard Casner and Lisa Leaheey join Jess and Heather along with Richard to plum the depth of depravity in 1950s Los Angeles. We learn about the whorehouse to the stars, touch on the controversy surrounding Kevin Spacey and debate the character of Ed Exley and the performance of actor Guy Pearce. Along the path a few Russell Crowe films pop up for discussion and everyone seems to have an opinion about Kim Basinger’s thespian skills. Howard thinks she is miscast, but of course it is the audience that will make that decision.
We get in some Rants/Raves and Reviews and Heather has a game that ends quickly, but we keep playing anyway.
