The tradition, if you can call a three year old practice a tradition, has been that the hosts of the Lambcast choose the MOTM Poll selection for their Birthday Month. Until a full time co host joins the show, that means you will only suffer once a year with such selections. February is Richard’s Birthday month so here are the selections you get to vote for, with a brief explanation of why each is offered.
Mysterious Island directed by Cy Enfield (1961)
Ray Harryhausen Effects, Bernard Hermann Score, and a Jules Verne story.
Phantom of the Paradise directed by Brian DePalma (1974)
We needed a musical on the list, and this is a 70s film, so it meets my standards.
Smile directed by Michael Ritchie (1975)
A chance to revisit a film that I was one of the few people to see in its original theatrical run.
The Man who Would be King directed by John Huston (1975)
Michael Caine and Sean Connery, together, in an adventure film.
The In-Laws directed by Arthur Hiller (1979)
It may be the funniest movie you never saw.
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension directed by W.D. Richter (1984)
It has to be done sometime. This is a cult film that should be a smash, but was not.
The Quick and the Dead directed by Sam Rami (1995)
A Sharon Stone western that is a tribute to the Leone films and features Russell Crowe and Gene Hackman.
Inside Llewyn Davis directed by The Coen Brothers (2013)
A Coen Brothers’ movie that I have avoided for reasons not quite clear to me.
Vote for the movie you want to win here! The poll will close on February 6th, it’s going to end on this date, dammit.
