The story of two boys, left to fend for themselves in NYC, during a hot summer, when they are separated from their drug addicted hooking mothers. The two young actors, Skylan Brooks and Ethan Dizon, handle the weight of the movie nearly by themselves. They do get a little support from Jennifer Hudson, Anthony Mackie, Jeffery Wright and Jordin Sparks, but those are all very much background players to the two young stars.
Nicole Ayers championed the film to MOTM status, and after securing a last minute replacement, Howard Casner, we dove into the themes and truths of the boys plight. Resisting the phrase “Poverty Porn”, the guests instead choose to view this as an underdog story of resilience that most adults would have a hard tome matching.
Spend an hour with us as we share our thoughts on the film, and our own vulnerabilities as movie watchers. You will want to push the kids away a first, but as things go on, you will be rooting for them, even though they are doomed to fall into the system.
