When June rolls around each year, the LAMB makes an effort to ensure that we have not neglected the work of female directors. As time marches on, there is fortunately less and less chance of that happening, since women have made great strides in the directing field, including films in the MCU, DCEU and the Major Academy Award categories in the last few years. We don’t want to let up however, and there are always women from the past who deserve attention that they may not have received on this site in the past.
Agnès Varda is maybe the most celebrated woman director in cinema history, serving as midwife to the French New Wave and making features, television, shorts and documentaries. Today we discuss her most popular film, “Cléo from 5 to 7”, an intimate drama told in the new wave style.
Howard Casner takes the hosting duties as he was the champion of the film for the recent poll. He and Richard are joined by Lisa Leaheey, who like Richard, is new to the works of the director. The Vern also appears on the show, in a virtual appearance inside our virtual show.
So come with us on a whirlwind afternoon as we get our fortune told, go for coffee and shopping, take a meeting with our songwriting partners, visit with our friend the model , take in a short film, and meet a friendly soldier, all in the space of 90 minutes while we await news of a life changing nature.
It was clearly a busy day for Cléo, and it was for us as well. We have a pretty long discussion of the film, Rants/Raves/and Reviews from everyone, and a game that was quite competitive.
