Happy Holiday Weekend for all the American Lambs. Those of you in other nations, we hope you will indulge us this week as we soak in a little national pride and celebrate the 246th Birthday of the United States. Picnics and fireworks will probably dominate the weekend, but we know that a lot of us are going to watch some movies on the three day holiday. So what should you watch?

Richard and MovieRob have come up with a couple of top ten lists for you which should give you plenty of variety to think about.

Rob stuck very much to films that contained a direct July 4th reference, while Richard looked at films that fit a Patriotic theme or American moment of exceptionalism. The combination of the two meant that there were only a couple of overlapping selections. Both lists contain musicals, and there are some films with a more jaundiced look at the American experience, but overall there is a lot that should make you happy that you watched these movies.

Astronauts and War films are well represented and there are some adventure pics that make some sense. So from Jimmy Stewart and James Cagney to Nicolas Cage and Tom Cruise, you are bound to find something that will make your heart swell with pride or your head think about the problems that America has faced.

Sports movies, political dramas, science fiction and war stories, this weekend has it all for you. [Including the greatest film of all time]
