Lambcast #661 Black Panther Wakanda Forever

by Richard Kirkham · November 15, 2022 · Featured, LAMBcast · 1 Comment

Welcome back to the MCU, this is their third film of 2022 and it is likely to be the most successful. Should it be? In addition to the usual discussion, we have a dissenting opinion from a LAMB who had big reservations about the original “Black Panther” movie and chose not to support this one as a result. We happily provide a platform for Nicole Ayers and as you listen, you may see that the issues she presents are largely addressed in the film when we eventually get around to talking about it.

When that section finishes we dive into a lot of opinions about the new film and Howard Casner contrasts the political subtext in this movie to the same themes in “Black Adam” from our show a couple of weeks ago.

The film is filled with new and returning characters and of course it deals with the tragic loss of Chadwick Boseman, the star who brought the Panther to life in the previous MCU films. Nick Rehak, Jeanette Ward and Richard all thought the movie could be trimmed a bit, but they all also had a hard time saying what should go.

There is not a multiverse to deal with in this story, but there is a new realm. Namor is the ruler of an undersea kingdom, threatened by the continuing search for vibrainium. Some of our podcasters knew that the Submariner predates Aquaman, and there is apparently a long history of conflict between the isolated nations. Feathered feet and other mythology is briefly discussed so our show is completely educational in nature.

So if you want to know more about colonialism, racism, water grenades and Martin Freeman’s American accent, this is where you want to spend a couple of hours.
