Lambcast #707 Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein-October MOTM

by Richard Kirkham · October 16, 2023 · Featured, LAMBcast, MOTM · No Comments

In a surprise upset, a Comedy/Horror film won the MOTM Poll. and despite calls to the Secretary of State in the Voting Districts, the count was confirmed. “Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein” joins a list of more gruesome fare as the star of our annual Episode devoted to a Halloween Horror Icon.

James Wilson of Blogging by Cinema Light, as the champion of the film. leads a discussion of this movie, delving into the context in which it was made as well as discussing the merits of the film. There are lots of side paths taken as well. Daniel Lackey, The Vern and first time guest Chris Ramey have history to share about the movie and themselves.

Listed as #56 on the AFI list of greatest American Comedies, Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein presents the boys as freight agents, assigned to deliver crates to a local House of Horror Attraction in Florida. The fact that the crates contain the remains of the Frankenstein’s Monster and the corpse of Count Dracula is what triggers the hijinks. Don’t fret, Larry Talbot does not get left out of the picture, in fact the Wolfman is almost the hero in the story.

If you haven’t been familiar with the comedy duo before now, be prepared for an onslaught of suggestions for follow up. They were prolific, as were other comedy teams like Laurel and Hardy, Martin and Lewis, and the Three Stooges. There are lots of movies and YouTube clips to explore.

But first, listen to this week’s podcast and watch the movie. It is safe for small children and all of the tender Lambs in our flock.
