Lambcast #737 Horizon An American Saga Chapter 1

by Richard Kirkham · July 2, 2024 · Featured, LAMBcast · No Comments

Actor/Director Kevin Costner returns to the big screen with an ambitious series of films, tracking the expansion of the United States into the Western part of the continent. Told from the perspective of several different characters, the story is a fictionalized version of history, presented in the manner of a novel. Some of the critical responses target the structure of the film, but our panel finds it evocative and creatively justified.

Howard Casner of “Pop Art” and Todd Liebenow of “The Forgotten Filmcast, join the show and become part of the unanimous praise wave that this film gets in this episode. There is a phenomenal cast in the movie, but some of the characters have only token appearances in this chapter. The panel picks out a few for special acknowledgement, and Michael Rooker and Luke Wilson seem to be favorites with these guests.

If you have been listening to naysayers about this film, come hear the other side of the argument and decide if maybe you should take a chance on this grandiose endeavor, in a genre that Costner seems to be keeping alive singlehandedly in 2024.
