The Lambcast goes Retro this week by digging into the newest iteration of the Fantastic Four. It seems every decade for the last forty years, someone has tried to make the “Fantastic Four” work as a movie . There was moderate success in the early 2000s, but the 2015 version is apparently a complete disaster. Did they get it right this time? [Spoiler Alert: The Guests this week largely say yes]
Jeanette Ward has extensive knowledge of the source material and she keeps the discussion honest in regard to the controversial casting of the Silver Surfer. Matt Poirier is no slouch when it comes to the comic books or the other film adaptations, and he rescues the comic book mythos regularly.

Everyone enthusiastically embraced the 1960s future vibe of the films aesthetic. The Jetsons would be jealous of the household in this universe. There are spaceships, cars and robots that will make you long for the clean lines and polished surfaces of the world of tomorrow as imagined by comic book artists and Disney Imagineers of 1964. It is like the New York World’s Fair hijacked Marvel Studios and churned this out as a result.
Eschewing the need to tie this into all the other Marvel Properties (at least for the moment), we get a stand alone super hero film that does not require a PhD in graphic fiction and mythology to understand. Let’s just say that someone decided that a comic book movie should be fun.
There is also a brief discussion, as an exit question, of what other properties might make a good film or series of films. Maybe you have some suggestions you can share.
