After creating a terrific film that streamed on Hulu during the pandemic, writer/director Dan Trachtenberg, returns with a big screen release of another Predator film. (This is actually his third because there is an animated film that was released in the summer of this year). The script inverts the usual story line, by making the Predator of our film the protagonist rather than the antagonist. You may well believe that there was a version of this film that did not feature any dialogue or humans, that is not the film we got.

Actress Elle Fanning gets to play a backpack for a large portion of the film and she supplies the snappy quips and straight lines to the young Yautja warrior who is on a quest to kill the most dangerous animal in the galaxy. Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi has to act behind some impressive make-up and CGI mandibles, but does a great deal of communication with his eyebrows.

Jeannette Ward and Aaron Neuwirth are the LAMBs who crash land on the planet Genna with us, and we all get to delight in the flora and fauna that all wants to kill us. Imagine Pandora without nine foot blue people and lots more deadly, poisonous and exotic flowers and grass, That’s what you get here. Oh, there is also James Bond and Arnold Schwarzenegger talk, you have to listen to understand.
