Now it’s time for Best Supporting Actress. Here are the results:
5. Judi Dench (Skyfall) – 69 points
4. Anne Hathaway (The Dark Knight Rises) – 78 points
3. Sally Field (Lincoln) – 88 points
2. Amy Adams (The Master) – 124 points
1. Anne Hathaway (Les Miserables) – 240 points
Wow, what a convincing win! Hathaway’s performance in Les Miserables dominated the category, earning almost double the points of runner-up Amy Adams. Add that to her 4th place showing for The Dark Knight Rises and it’s clear she had a great year. Hathaway is a former winner in the Best Actress category, winning in 2008(tied with Kate Winslet in Revolutionary Road) for her performance in Rachel Getting Married.
Oscar nominee Helen Hunt just missed the cut, scoring 51 points to put her in 6th place. Stay tuned for Best Screenplay tomorrow.
Previous Winners
2008: Viola Davis (Doubt) & Marisa Tomei (The Wrestler)
2009: Mo’Nique (Precious)
2010: Melissa Leo (The Fighter)
2011: Octavia Spencer (The Help)
Amy Adams’ performance didn’t fully work for me, but that scene is FIRE!
I would have loved to see Helen Hunt crack the top 5.
This truly was the year of Anne Hathaway. Her performances, both so vastly different, were outstanding and when she wins the Oscar it will be one of the most deserved Supporting Actress Oscars in the past two/three decades!
I could barely think of 5 performances as I haven’t seen Lincoln or Les Mis and don’t really plan to (they’re just not for me). My only pick in this list was Judi Dench. Ah well.
Love the fact that Hathaway got in for The Dark Knight Rises. Such a big part of that film’s successes.
Hathaway blows you away with her version of I Dreamed a Dream, but other than that, she is really not in the film much. Basically she is going to win the Oscar for one musical number. I would rather see her win for Dark Knight.
The Academy has a rule that the same actor/actress can’t be nominated for two performances in the same category. I’m glad we don’t do that here. If you earned two spots, you should get two spots!
