(Editor’s note to non-LAMBs: In celebration of the Oscars, the Large Association of Movie Blogs will be running a blog-a-thon of sorts, with a number of LAMBs writing a post on the field of a given category. This post serves as an announcement of the event to you, and also hammers out a number of details for the LAMBs. Thanks!)
Ok, the categories for the LAMB Oscars Uber-Event Type Thing (note: name needs work) have been decided. That is, most of them have been.
As I stated previously, there are 24 Academy Awards handed out. From my earlier emails on the subject, 17 (yay!) of you responded by saying you were up for random assigment and would be willing to contribute. A few of you (the first three) volunteered for some “non-major” awards, so I have given you those. For the remaining 15, I randomly grabbed 15 of the remaining awards and randomly applied them.
I’m not going to lie – there are going to be some challenging topics to cover, but I have faith in each and every one of you. Now, you might be asking “what about the other six awards?” Well, here’s where it gets tricky. First of all, here are the remaining six awards:
Best Animated Short Film
Best Documentary Feature
Best Live Action Short Film
Best Original Song
Best Picture
Best Sound Mixing
In case you didn’t notice, there happens to be a biggie in there (Original Song and Documentary aren’t that bad, either). So, here’s what I’m going to do: I’m going to ask for volunteers to write about a second category. Assuming I get more than 6, I will have another random assignment, only this time, there are some people that won’t get a second. At the same time, if you already have a stinker, you might get a second, so there is a risk involved. But if you say yes and reneg, I will hound you until next year’s Oscars, so be warned. 😉 If you are up for volunteering, and the risk that goes with it, please justreply with a comment on this post, and I’ll go from there.
The nominations come out on Tuesday. I’d like to get posts emailed to me as soon as possible after that (hypocrisy alert: mine will probably get done later rather than sooner, but I do have an excuse) – from whom and in what order, I don’t care; I just can’t get them all 3 days before the ceremony. Ideally, I will run one a day up until the show. If you wish to run the post on your site as well, I surely can’t stop you, but please wait until after I have posted it here. If I could think of more rules and stipulations, I would list them, but I can’t. I’m sure this will run smoothly once the ball gets rolling.
