It’s Blusterin’ Time!

And remember: Blustering should be a two-way street; if you’ve asked to be blustered, you better be a blusterer.

If you’re new to this feature or need a refresher, click the label at the bottom of this post and see the first few posts. Otherwise, here are the basics:

What I’ll do is list a site; you’re asked to critique it. But here’s the catch: to induce the most honest reactions, don’t leave the comment using your normal alias/login – instead, go anonymous, and be as brutally honest (or complimentary) as you wish to be. Also, be specific, and naturally, don’t be rude. If I deem anything inappropriate, I’ll have no problem deleting the comment.

So, go to the site listed below, familiarize yourself with it for a few minutes, then come back and leave some constructive criticism and/or comments that you have.

  1. I wouldn’t mind seeing a color to fill both sides of the body of text. That sea of white is a bit dull.

  2. Okay, thanks for the tip! I’ll try to spice up the colors.

And whoever may be about to comment, BE BRUTAL! I can take whatever you dish out. haha

  3. The formatting is not consistent. I can understand the idea behind changing it up from post to post, but I think there is enough change just from the visuals (pictures and videos). I’d prefer to see a more professional, and therefore consistent, style. Also, though it is clearly warned by the subtitle, that the blog is written by a teenager, I still think that (depending on your aim for the blog) the reviews can be much better written. Sometimes they come off more as rants or stream of consciousness than reviews, but if that is what you are going for fine. You did give heads up with Black Swan, but I would have like to have seen along with the review you did a properly written one later on as well. Also, try to create a separate blog for your music reviews. Since the title of the blog is “His Eyes Were Watching Movies” I expect only film posts. Despite these problems, I did like the overall clear voice and the use of pictures and videos.

  4. The blog’s not aimed at me for sure so maybe I shouldn’t comment, but its pretty obvious that it’s written by a teenage boy. Whether that’s a compliment or not it’s up to you.

  5. Hey commenters, thanks for the tips! I’ll try to tone down the teenagerishness but without stifling the “clear voice” that you mentioned. I think that working on a more professional and consistent style would really improve my blog so i’m glad that that’s been brought to my attention – I’ll start thinking of what I can do to improve. If you all have anything else you want to add, please do, I love all the advice and it’s only helping me get better! 🙂
