Lambcast #656 The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) MOTM

by Richard Kirkham · October 12, 2022 · Featured, LAMBcast · No Comments

Horror films from the 1970s are being remade on a regular basis. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has been remade twice and there are six other iterations of the film, but it’s hard to top the original. TCM is often cited as one of the most frightening movies ever made, it certainly was shocking, but despite it’s reputation it is surprisingly gore free.

Five friends take a trip out to the old homestead of the brother and sister duo in the group, and they discover that the famous Texas Barbeque in that area is not USDA approved. The five hitchhikers on this episode though are LAMB approved and they all have opinions to share. Nick Rehak guest hosts the show as the champion of the film, and his fully gassed up chainsaw makes the show flow very smoothly from topic to topic.

How is Anton Chigurh relevant to this movie?

We discuss favorite characters and everyone agrees, as you will, that Franklin is not only the most annoying character in the movie, he may be the most annoying character in movies. Jar Jar Binks is a pleasure by comparison. Sally, for lack of a better designation , “The Final Girl” , is both loved and despised by the assembled cast of our show. Marilyn Burns who played Sally however gets high praise from everyone.

Look, hitchhiking gets a bad name. Chainsaw sounds create nightmares for The Vern, and the nightly news and vegetarianism, also come up in the discussion. Todd Liebenow sees Moe, Larry, and Curly, in the film and Nicole Ayers decides that one character is stupid. Will explains Musique concrète to us and, Richard and Nick, decide that carrying a pocket knife is the patriotic way to be free in America.
