So the DCEU means to get down to business and reformat it’s films to integrate more effectively and to break the mold of the bleak CGI fests that have dominated their output so far. Dwayne Johnson has entered the arena with promises that “Black Adam” will be a gamechanger. Delayed twice, this is a highly anticipated storyline which may create a new hierarchy of power among the DC superheroes, but does it fix the deficiencies that so many have pointed out since “The Man of Steel” a decade ago?
The guests on the show this week agree that Johnson is a good fit for the part, but the film’s story comes in for some rather critical comments.
“If you like superhero movies and destruction, but don’t care about story…” seems like a stinging rebuke to the film.
On the other hand, we do get James Bond in a cool uniform with a neat helmet, and one of those flying guys from Planet Mongo shows up in the movie as well.
Our guests find some interesting political issues at the heart of the “Justice Society of America” which we frequently conflate with the “Justice League” and if you think Clint Barton is in the story, sorry, we just had a hard time keeping track of our avian hero names.
How much background story is needed for a hero to work? Who or what are the villains in this film? Why is Amanda Waller in charge of a second group of enhanced humans? Some of these questions get answers and some just get asked. Plus we have some Rants and Raves and Reviews for you.
